Descriptions

Crafted in Philadelphia around 1760, these Queen Anne-style dining chairs were originally part of a larger set. The side chairs are solid Cherry, and the armchairs are Mahogany. Kindel has reproduced them in the same materials. The side chair features additional egg-and-dart ornamentation at the bottom of the splat and is considered by many scholars and collectors to be one of the finest examples of the Queen Anne-style in Philadelphia. Its mate sold at Christie's in 2002 for $666,000, a world record for a single wooden side chair. The hand-carved elements (shells, volutes, acanthus leaves, and ball-and-claw feet) of Kindel's reproduction have faithfully captured the appearance of the originals. As Shown: Finished in Winterthur (27) and Fabric not available.
